Aerosmith – Aerosmith (self-titled)
Release Date: January, 5th, 1973
I am sticking with the #DebutAlbumOfTheWeek theme. I was looking through Dad’s playlist and saw some Aerosmith. I decided to go back to the beginning of Aerosmith, before Steven Tyler sounded like Steven Tyler. It is raw, as we would assume, but I like it. I am especially drawn to One Way Street. I think that is my favorite song on the album. Dream On is the tits and I enjoyed the 1st song on the album, Make It. It is a decent listen-through and can see how they made it to superstardom. They did alter their sound (See: Steven Tyler voice), but they started as a blues-rock band from Boston. This album came out in 1973 and Tyler is still fucking screaming on stage. He is certainly terrible now and looks like he could make for a nice villain in a scary movie, or even as a Carly Simon stunt-double. I read somewhere that Steven Tyler spent millions of dollars on cocaine in his lifetime. Millions. How is he alive?
Adam’s Reaction:
The thought of Aerosmith automatically generates nausea, but I actually grooved to the sound of their #DebutAlbum. I still don’t believe they are for me, but these 8 songs were relatively painless. I agree that Dream On & One Way Street set themselves apart from the other songs, but I did like the style of Mama Kin despite its repetitiveness. I will have to give this another listen and see how I feel. This is definitely a subdued version of Steven Tyler, which is refreshing.
