Arcade Fire – Everything Now
Release Date: July 28th, 2017
So let me first acknowledge the elephant in the room: I don’t love this band and really find this album to be just OK. There, I said it. But Adam, it is growing on me. Like hard. I have tried probably 3 times over my 33 years of life to get into Arcade Fire because I always hear how great they are. I remember just hard passing on them after listening to like 2 songs. Then I came across this album, which is their newest. I added it to my album queue to eventually get to it and this weekend was that eventually. The beginning of the album is the best part of the record, I believe. But I am currently listening to the album again and find myself liking it more. Maybe they are an acquired taste? I mean, you will hear it right away, why I don’t love them. The lead singer is essentially talking more than singing and after watching a few of their videos, I am convinced that their lead singer is Aunt Adrienne. Uncanny similarities.
I texted Tom after I listened to this album asking if he likes this band because I can usually trust his judgment, though he usually has a little different taste in music than I. Of course, he said he really loves them. Which makes sense because Tom is into some weird stuff. He said that he likes their albums in the order that they came out; Arcade Fire has 5 albums. So he likes this album the least, fifth place out of 5, where I would probably make it #1 on my list. Which again, makes sense because Tom. I tried their earlier albums and kept hitting ‘next song,’ hoping, waiting. I mean, they have 3.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify, so I feel like I am missing something. But I ain’t got all day and night for Arcade Fire, amirite?
Well anyway, even if you don’t love it, at least we have broadened our album pallets to experience other, different music. I feel a bit more musically educated knowing that I can speak intelligently about having listened to Arcade Fire. I have one of the songs from Everything Now on our next playlist, but I won’t tell you which one because #SUSPENSE.
